When planning your party, it is important to know about all the legalities behind the event. A major one of them being alcohol.
A person must not supply alcohol to a minor (under 18) and a minor must not receive, possess or consume alcohol. (Under the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998)
Supplying alcohol to people under 18 is considered committing an offence, unless they have parental consent.
A parent or legal guardian may give verbal or written consent for a person to supply alcohol to their child.
Any adult who supplies alcohol to a minor without their parent’s consent could receive a penalty with a maximum of $7000.
Annually, about 5,000 people under age 21 die from alcohol-related injuries involving underage drinking. Approximately:
